Rechartering

Important dates for rechartering:

• • BSA and Troop dues (see below for dues): before Oct 31, each year, by check.

Every Fall, we "recharter" our Troop for coming year.  It is important that we complete that process within the time-frame provided by the Council, and do it well.  Here is some information that is often asked:

What is "rechartering our Troop"?

It is the process of registering our Troop with BSA for the next calendar year.  We confirm all the youth and adult members of BSA in our Troop, and pay BSA registration dues for the next year.  

What does this involve?

1. Fill out the google form

2. Pay for BSA and Troop dues for the next year.  Parents can pay by check written out to 'BSA Troop125.' Troop passes along  your BSA dues to the Council.

3. Parents are required to complete YPT, AB506 process and sign up to volunteer for at least two events each year.

Once all the dues are in, the Troop Committee volunteers will update our roster on BSA records, and turn in the rechartering documents to BSA.

What if my son is only attending the meetings, but no outing?

Unfortunately Troop dues are the same for everyone - no matter how active your son is.  However, it is sincerely hoped that your son starts participating in outings as well. 

How much do I owe?

The numbers change every year.  Please refer to the Annual dues under Costs on this page.  It covers both BSA dues as well as Troop dues.

What if I do not pay the dues by October 31?

It means your son does not plan to continue with Troop 125.  He will not be registered for 2019.  If he decides to rejoin BSA at a later date, his current records (rank advancement and merit badges) will need to be linked to his new registration at that time.  This is significant amount of work for Scout Family, Troop and Council.

Forms have to be filled by Scouts even if they are discontinuing form the Troop.

Please note that only filling the form is not confirmation for Scout's Rechartering. It just tells Committee Chair that your scout is interested in continuing his scouting journey with Troop 125. You still need to have enough balance in your Scout's pre-paid account to cover for recharter expenses. Check "Money Matters" in Parents Section of Website for details.

Do Adults need to confirm Scout Rechartering?

Yes, Adults also need to fill the form, In addition to having a current YPT and comply to AB506 process.

There is no charge for it. Troop will cover your recharter expenses.
