Rank Advancement

Rank Advancement

This page is intended for Scouts who are looking for information on the SMC or BOR process or the link to the forms. The rank advancement involves four steps: Scoutmaster Conference, Board of Review (except for Scout rank), Rank approval in Online Scoutbook, and Court of Honor.

Scoutmaster Conference (SMC)

Who:
Troop 125 Scouts who completed all the requirements in a rank can request for a Scoutmaster Conference (SMC) using the google form:  SMC Request Form

When:
Onsite SMC will be held during our regular Troop Meeting first week of every month from 7:30pm to 8:30pm. The Scout needs to complete and submit the google form to request an SMC. The cut-off date to request for an SMC is 28th of each month. For example, if you need an SMC in Oct, you must submit the form by Sep 28th.

How:
The Scout starts by submitting the SMC request form. Please use the latest version of the form linked here and make sure you are not using older versions of the forms from your bookmarks or older emails. The Scout must inform his patrol ASM about upcoming SMC. If you have any questions, please talk to your Patrol Leader.

What:
All Scouts required to be in full Class A uniform with current rank patch and must have all requirements for the requested rank signed off in the handbook or online scoutbook.

Board of Review (BOR)

Once the Scout passes SMC for Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, or Life ranks, he needs to request a BOR using the following link. The deadline for requesting the BOR is Saturday noon of the week prior to BOR.  BOR is not required for the Scout rank. For the Scout rank, the scout should proceed to the next step of rank approval in the online scoutbook.

What you need to know about Board of Review

Rank Approval in Scoutbook

Once the Scout passes the Board of Review, he needs to mark the rank as “Completed” in the online scoutbook, and then ask the Patrol ASM to “Approve” the rank in the online scoutbook. Only after this step, the scout is eligible to receive the rank patch in the next Court of Honor.

Court of Honor

Scouts who have their rank approved in the online scoutbook will receive their rank patch in the next Court of Honor. This rank patch is required for meeting the Class A uniform requirement for the SMC for the next rank. If a scout has SMC scheduled for a rank before receiving patch for the previous rank, he needs to show evidence of the approval of the previous rank in online scoutbook during the SMC.
